10/06/21 - This is not groundhog day :), whilst this update may seem as a copy and paste on last weeks note, behind the scene there have been many hours invested in managing the highly anticipated launch.

The launch of the RTX 3070 Ti is at 2pm today. As with the 3080 Ti launch last week, we anticipate exceptional demand for stock and these will sell out extremely quickly (within seconds).

We will not be in a position to take pre-orders due to the demand.

To avoid any ambiguity all products will be marked with “sold out” accordingly . We will not be getting additional supplies for the remainder of the week.

The website will be the ONLY way to place orders so we ask that customers please avoid stock related contact on any of our phone lines, chat, or social media.

We feel it unfair that people are selling the cards in marketplaces at unrealistic prices. Please be assured we have taken a balanced view of the market and have put provisions in place to uphold our policy of fair supply focusing on Gamers as stated on our FAQ page.

FAQs

We've put together the most asked questions around the NVIDIA 30 series launch. Please have a read though these before contacting our customer services team.

Why are you not taking pre-orders for the RTX 3090 Ti / 3080 Ti / 3070 Ti?

At this time we have chosen not to take pre-orders on these models, or any further pre-orders on other models, as we do not have a clear schedule of stock arriving. This means that we have no way to know how many pre-orders we could take on any specific model and fulfil within a reasonable time frame.

Can I buy a Founders Edition graphics card from Scan?

No. Scan work as a fulfilment partner for NVIDIA on the FE cards. These must be bought using the links on the NVIDIA website when stock is available.

What are you doing to ensure a fair supply of graphics cards to gamers?

For us its more important than ever to make sure that customers who want a card for their own use are actually able to buy from us. The website will feature significant extra security measures at every graphics card stock release, with new measures introduced regularly, as we are doing everything we can to stop the scalpers and get the cards into the hands of gamers, including manual checks before shipping. Naturally we can’t list what these measures are but some will be very visible, like captcha to reduce bots, and others go much deeper. We hope that everyone can be understanding in these challenging situations.

Why have you removed the tables for the RTX 3070 and 3090?

We have reached a point where we have been able to offer all of the customers in the queues for these graphics cards at least one alternative option. The few pre-order customers remaining have decided to wait for the card that they have chosen and they also have the option to change to a different card should one come into stock. All of the free stock we receive for RTX 3060 Ti, 3070 and 3090 will be listed on the Scan website as per normal going forward. As more stock becomes available we will provide our usual ETA dates on the individual product pages so there is no longer a need to manually maintain a table on the FAQ page for these models.

There is no table for RTX 3060 Ti shipments. Why is this?

For the RTX 3060 Ti launch we changed our policy of accepting pre-orders and only sold the stock that we had for the launch. As there are no pre-orders waiting for RTX 3060 Ti as soon as new stock arrives it will be listed on the site for sale like any normal product.

Why do you take full payment for a pre-order?

If we did not charge, there would be a distorted queue as customers would simply register interest. This would give unrealistic forecasts for obvious reasons. Much in the same way as people book concert ticket, or pay for a seat on an airline ; you are paying for a future access to guarantee stock ; a pre-order works in exactly the same way. With the addition of the pre-order promise, you have the choice to be refunded immediately without any penalty.

What happened during the 3070 launch?

We went live at 1pm for the launch of the 3070 as planned. We knew that demand of this model would be extremely high and worked hard to upgrade our systems to try to cope with the demand. Even so we did see some significant slow downs on the website during the 30-minute period after the launch. Over 60,000 people tried to buy within that time frame meaning that there will no doubt be many disappointed customers who couldn’t get a card today. Once our initial stock had sold through we closed the sales and, after a few minutes, reopened for pre-orders. As per the 3080 and 3090 launch we have limited pre-orders to an expected 6 week window. We are working with the brands to make this period as short as possible and hope to be able to re-open for orders as soon as possible.

I got stuck in the basket. What happened to my order?

Due to the extreme demand there will have been a significant amount of people stuck in the basket at various stages. If you have received and order confirmation email then your transaction has completed. If you have NOT received an order confirmation email then unfortunately your order did not complete. There is a possibility that this could have happened during payment. If this is the case then the transaction will be reversed automatically.

I didn’t get a card or a pre order. When can I buy one?

Once we have confirmation from the brands of the shipment schedule and have seen the pre-order numbers come down we will look to allow some more pre-orders to be placed along with clear ETAs for when we would expect these to ship. You can keep a watch on the FAQ page in the RTX 3070 table to see how this is progressing per brand

What is my queue position?

You will now receive your queue position or order ETA via email. Please note that queue positions are NOT comparable between companies for this reason.

As an illustration of why comparing queue positions is difficult -

Company A - you are position 60 from 500 orders. This looks worse as a queue position compared to company B where you are position 3 out of 10 orders. However, if the GPU team in company A gets 100 cards faster due to various procurement factors then customers will receive their orders faster than they would from company B, who is struggling to get 10 cards.

Orders are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. As graphics cards arrive they are allocated in the same way to customer orders. Please have confidence that SCAN is getting the best supply in the UK and refer to our Pre-Order Promise for options.

Why can't I buy/pre-order a 30 Series GPU?

The demand has been so overwhelming that we have taken a maximum quantity of pre-orders we feel we can fulfil. For those who have placed pre-orders, please refer to the options in the Pre-order Promise.

When will the card be on sale again?

Only when we are certain of allocating a future supply will we enable the buy button.
We are working hard with NVIDIA and the board partners to plan additional inventory and refer customers to the Pre-order Promise options.

What is the current pre-order status of 30 Series GPUs?

We would like to reassure or customers that we are working really hard to get pre-order stock in as fast as possible & have the full support & commitment of all of our brands to make the wait time as short as possible. We quickly realised that the interest in 30 Series cards was way beyond the expectations of everyone and took the action to stop taking pre-orders before the lists got too big. Most other sites did not do this & have continued to take pre-orders potentially racking up thousands of orders that will NOT be fulfilled leading to extreme anxiety from customers. We are proud to say that nearly ALL of our pre-order lists are now in the low hundreds for each model. We are getting updates from the brands daily on expected shipment numbers & will be sending out emails to our pre-order customers as soon as we know when their card will be dispatched. We have also now added a delivery schedule to the FAQ page so you can see when deliveries are expected for each brand. We will also soon be able to re-open our pre-orders and share the expected wait times up front before you place your order with us.

Why couldn't I access scan.co.uk on launch day?

The website experienced 7x our peak capacity and resorted to a 'one in, one out' policy. We understand any disappointment you my feel, but it was exceptional circumstances and an isolated occurrence.

We are in the process of bolstering our systems to allow for additional capacity in future.

In addition to this high demand, we also experienced an unfortunate DDOS attack, simulating external traffic causing additional strain on an already busy day.

This attack however was mitigated by the correct policies of limiting traffic.

Why has the price increased on RTX 3080 GPUs?

There have been a lot of opinions around why we raised the price on certain brands of the RTX 3080. Pricing justification is not a common policy but we feel strongly about clarifying our position given the comments on various social media channels.

We try to do a lot for our customers by going over and above the norm to be the best at what we do. We don't get it right all the time and always look to learn and keep improving at a relentless pace to better our service levels.

Here are the facts to consider -
We had a quantity of graphics cards allocated at a given cost for launch, due to unprecedented demand, these cards sold out within minutes. Our GPU pricing team maintained the price until the volume sold exceeded our 6 week forecasted supply in.

This meant when sourcing new cards beyond our 6 week supply, the replacement costs were higher due to longer lead times and more uncertain supply chains given such high demand. We had no choice but to pass this cost on. Contrary to some comments, the price increase has not been made to take advantage of excessive demand.

To expand on this point there needs to be some context around the level of unprecedented demand on launch day -
• We've never had to take a product off sale before, due to demand being too high. RTX 3080 GPUs remain offline until we are certain on further supply and cost.
• We've never had our website max-out with traffic, as it did during the Ampere launch.
• We showed a fair price policy on launch, giving confidence to all those who were buying.
• We maintained our integrity in what we do, by only increasing prices where our costs had increased.
• We sympathise with those who are rightly annoyed.
• We also accept this won't change the minds of some, but at least it gives balance to a one-sided view.
• We're here to learn and do our best for you and will keep trying.
Please read our Pre-order Promise for more details.

Why was the product page price different to the checkout price?

We needed to update our pricing, as explained in another of our FAQs discussing price increases. Given the levels of traffic on the website there was a delay/lag from when the the price change was initiated and when it took effect on the website. It would only have momentarily affected those who were at the stage of going from product page to checkout on the several graphics cards in question.

Please see FAQs for reasons behind price updates.

How do I know my order status?

If you have an order number or your payment was processed, our Pre-order Promise options apply.
If you do not have an order number, we have not been able to accept your order.
Please keep an eye on the website for further information.

What will happen for the RTX 3090 launch?

We are expecting VERY HIGH demand so there will be a point when there are lots of people going through the checkout having seen that the product was in stock but has since sold out. Once stock sells out anyone who is in the checkout process will find that the GPU will get removed from their basket. If this happens then unfortunately there are no more cards available to buy. Within a few minutes we will then add a pre-order button to the product on the website site and allow a LIMITED number of pre-orders before the product will go off sale until we have more information. Please be aware that we cannot yet provide accurate timescales for delivery of pre-orders.

Post RTX 3080 / 3090 launch how are you handling Pre orders?

All pre orders are placed in a ‘first come first served’ queue for each model when you purchase. We will then ship out in order as the stock arrives from the brands. We are sharing the expected delivery info we have from the brands on our FAQ page and have split out RTX 3080 and 3090 delivery info so it can been seen for each. Once we get to the point that we know when we will have ‘Free stock’ of a product we will then look to re-open our pre-orders giving an expected fulfilment date.

What about the news that some RTX 3080 and 3090 cards are crashing?

NVIDIA has released a new Game Ready Driver on 28th September, 456.55, which addresses the stability issues that some users have experienced in a few select games. We recommend that you install the new driver before you start using your RTX 3080 or 3090 to make sure that you get the best experience. You can download the latest driver through the GeForce Experience app on your PC or by visiting this link: https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/drivers/
