Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pioneer BDR-UD03B 9.5mm Ultraslim As bluray readers and writers go, the Pioneer BDR-UD03B 9.5mm Ultraslim, is a remarkably good one; initially i was in the market for another earlier model type that was also coincidentally by Pioneer, and happened across this newer model, "for myself at least I would state, brand is not a deciding factor however" Key to any informed purchase decision, especially in the world of I.T hardware technology, the capabilities and performance of a device should ideally be merited, alongside tested reliability. The Pioneer BDR-UD03B 9.5mm Ultraslim, not only ticked all of the previously sought performance requirements, but also exceeded the supported media both on reading and writing capabilities, of which their is plenty of information already available online for research. The drive is virtually inaudible and completely silent in playback operation of a bluray or DVD movie and shouldn't disturb any but the most critical of purchasers, with hearing on par of a bats. Even under writing of a disc the level of noise is barely unnoticeable. Loading of content is rapid, and the Pioneer BDR-UD03B 9.5mm Ultraslims stated disc access times are accurately stated, according to my own research; the drive has been provided with 6MB of internal memory cache, which equates to 5.7MB taking into account binary reduction. Typically alot of drives only have 4MB, so you decide. Disappointingly, the drive has the capability to provide UHD, or Ultra High Defenition playback and writing, however the current internal or inbuilt firmware of the drive does not have this enabled. The optomist in me knows that Pioneer could release a newer firmware update from the presently installed version 1.10 for this drive that would enable UHD playback and recording specifications. However; the realist and sceptic in me knows It is likely the same drive would be released with a different name, updated firmware; and increased price instead, like graphics cards; CPU's et. Opening of the drive, or ejecting a disc; is remarkably quick and sneakily smooth, with a very subtle almost pleasant click. The UHD playback for this drive, should not detract though from this product, it supports almost evry other disc medium you can throw at it, and I am myself pleased with the quality and offering Pioneer has brought to the technical table, one which was of remarkably good value for what it has to offer.
