We've put together the most asked questions around the PlayStation 5 launch. Please have a read though these before contacting our customer services team as we hope to answer most questions here to save you waiting. We will add any regularly asked questions to this FAQ.
Why do you take full payment for a pre-order?
If we did not charge, there would be a distorted queue as customers would simply register interest. This would give unrealistic forecasts for obvious reasons. Much in the same way as people book concert ticket, or pay for a seat on an airline ; you are paying for a future access to guarantee stock ; a pre-order works in exactly the same way. With the addition of the pre-order promise, you have the choice to be refunded immediately without any penalty.
Why can't I buy/pre-order a PS5?
As expected demand for the new console far exceeded the initial supply. We are now waiting to see what sort of allocation we will be given from Sony to fulfil our current pre-order queue. Once we have that information and can understand what the estimated wait time will be we can re-open for more pre orders.
Why did you take more pre-orders than your allocation?
Before the launch Sony did not provide an allocation to any retailer. We were asked to take pre-orders and then report back to Sony. After this they would allocate stock based on these numbers. Unfortunately the demand far exceeded the amount of units that Sony could produce so they have had to allocate a percentage of the pre-orders taken to each retailer. Once Sony confirmed the amounts we would get for launch we sent out an email to all pre-order customers to let them know if they will get one for launch or not.
If I don’t get one for launch how long will I be waiting?
Right now we do not currently know. After the launch stock has shipped we will share an email with ALL of the pre-order customers to let them know their exact queue position. Then, as soon as we get more information from Sony on a shipment schedule we will post that on this FAQ page in a table so that everyone can see. We will also send out weekly queue position updates along with an ETA for those who will get their PS5 on the next batch coming in.
When will the PS5 be on sale again?
Only when we are certain of allocating a future supply will we enable the buy button.
We are working hard with Sony to plan additional inventory and refer customers to the Pre-order Promise options.
Post PS5 launch how are you handling pre-orders?
Once we are able to re-open for pre-orders with an ETA, all pre-orders will be placed in a ‘first come first served’ queue for each model when you purchase. We will then ship out in order as the stock arrives. We will be sharing the expected delivery info we have from Sony on our FAQ page and have split out PS5 Digital and Disc version delivery info so it can been seen for each.
Will you have any free stock to sell before the end of 2020?
At this moment we think that it is unlikely that we will have free stock on the website before the end of this year. We do think we will be able to open for more pre-orders and when we do they will have an estimated delivery date displayed under the pre-order button. The fastest way to get a PS5 will be to place a pre-order when we re-open them.
I have already placed a pre-order with Scan for the PS5. What happens now?
You will have already received an email from Scan to let you know if you are going to get your console at launch or not. If you are not going to receive yours for launch you are now in a queue for the stock that will be coming in after the launch. After launch day we will email you again to let you know your exact queue position. Each week we will then send an updated queue position so that you can see how you are progressing. We will also publish a table on this FAQ page showing the expected shipments each week.
