What is an AMD FreeSync Monitor?
Although you can use any monitor for gaming, FreeSync monitors have been specifically designed for gaming. FreeSync monitors work in concert with your AMD Radeon graphics card to provide smoother refresh rates, wider colour gamuts and reduced input lag and are a must have for the ultimate gaming experience.
How FreeSync works
Most monitors have a fixed refresh rate, which is measured in Hz, the number of refreshes per second. FreeSync monitors have a processor that communicates with your AMD Radeon graphics card, sharing information such as the frame rate. This allows the monitor to match its refresh rate with the frame rate, reducing stuttering and tearing when gaming.
VARIABLE REFRESH RATE
With AMD FreeSync technology, the refresh rate of a display is synchronised with the frame rate of FreeSync graphics card reducing or eliminating visual artefacts that many users are especially sensitive to: input latency, screen tearing and stuttering during gaming.
FREESYNC PREMIUM AND PREMIUM PRO
FreeSync Premium adds mandatory low frame rate compensation (LFC) and at least 120Hz refresh rate at FHD resolution. Premium Pro adds HDR capabilities for supported games and displays, including highly accurate luminance and wide colour gamut testing to enable an exceptional gaming experience.
