How to choose your 3XS Server
Configuring a new server or servers can seem like a daunting process, with dozens if not hundreds of decisions to make about the hardware configuration - CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage and network connectivity. This can be simplified by asking one question - what are you planning to use the server for? If you intend the use to be back-up or archiving, file sharing or demanding applications such as big data analytics, high performance computing (HPC) or AI, then many of these decisions will fall into place.
THE ACCELERATED ERA
Intel 4th gen Xeon CPUs mark a new chapter in the Xeon story, for the first time adding fixed function accelerators which speed up specific tasks, freeing up the main CPU cores for other workloads. Additionally, the new Sapphire Rapids architecture adds support for 8-channels of DDR5 memory and 80 lanes of PCIe 5.0, providing double the bandwidth of PCIe 4.0. Finally, a new 7nm manufacturing process enables the core count to be increased from 40 to 60 cores.
AI ACCELERATION
Intel AMX, Advanced Matrix Extensions, accelerates deep learning and AI model training. AMX works by speeding up matrix-multiply tasks by up to 8x versus older VNNI instructions, boosting performance in tasks such as recommendation engines, natural language processing, image recognition, object detection and media analytics.
OPTANE PERSISTENT MEMORY
Intel Optane persistent memory is an innovative memory technology that delivers a unique combination of affordable large capacity and support for data persistence. It can help businesses fuel innovation with increased capacity and unique memory modes, lower overall TCO while maximising VM densities, and increase memory security with automatic hardware-level encryption.
